Dance Audition – Handle and Leave Great Impression

We realize that audition is not for all time related to television and theater productions. There are other major audition fields which may interest you, for instance dance audition. In case you have certain ambitions to be a professional dancer, you will be required to attend this sort of audition. Similar to other auditions, you must bring a resume and portfolio. This includes a one-page summary of your skill, accomplishments, contact information, as well as some headshots and full body shots in a variety of dance-wears.

There are two types of dance audition, the individual and group. Out of these two categories, the most common one is the group dance audition. Do not let yourself sweating and dripping during the audition, be great on it. Let us just dive straight into some basic preparation tips.

Prepare Yourself

Both for individual and group dance audition, knowing the dance style is an obligation. At times, you should do research of what kind of dance style the panel prefer thus you are able to judge your ability. If you are up for RnB dance, it is better for not auditioning for salsa. Also, you should choose suitable dance attire. There are various dance-wears, such as tights and leotard for women, tights and T-shirt for men. Adjust with the dance theme; do not make a fool by wearing wrong style since you need to show the casting director exactly why they should hire you.

Identify the Group and the Dance Requirement

Get familiar with your group. Bunch of practices with them will do great. By doing so, you can observe the unique style of each dancer as well as find the dance style that will fit everyone in the group. The next step is to pick an attractive yet simple and respectful song. Not only it has to suit your group’s dancing style but also be acceptable for judges. While performing, be sure to avoid particular beats to start dancing. This will create “pause” and it is not good. Another tip is by checking the preferences of the judges so that you can adjust your dance style accordingly.

Leave Great Impression

The finishing touch is to leave great impression to the casting director. Dance audition is about giving performances, not just dance. In group dance audition, besides incorporating with your group, make sure you never break your eye contact with the judges while you are performing. Express your personality by enjoying every movement you make so they can see your skill. In addition, you need to get to the location on time to leave great impression.

We are giving away chances for you to request certain areas on auditioning. Hints and tips are available here. Good luck, actors!

Laurence Fishburne as Perry White in “Superman: Man of Steel”

By this point, a number of significant casting for Zack Snyder’s forthcoming comic book franchise reboot Superman: Man of Steel has been surfaced. There are our favorite superhero Henry Cavill as a long-run Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Pa and Ma Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, and Julia Ormond as his wife. With filming set to embark on shortly, we finally dig up other cast name to play the boss of Clark Kent, Perry White. A hint for you that this current man is totally different to former Perry White casts.

Some of you perhaps have heard that the new Spider-man in Ultimate series is becoming a half Latino and half African American (and possibly gay) Brooklyn teenager, named Miles Morales – that is pretty shocking. Similar to that, it seems that Zack Synder has decided to tap a unique Perry White in Superman: Man of Steel. It was announced last week that an African American actor Laurence Fishburne is going to portray the used-to-be Caucasian character, Perry White. Laurence Fishburne is probably best known for his exceptional role in The Matrix as Morpheus and in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation as Dr. Raymond Langston.

Firstly appeared in Superman #7, Perry White is widely recognized as the tough and abrasive editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet in the thriving city of Metropolis, where Clark Kent and Lois Lane worked. If we track the history of Superman, either in television series, movies, or even animated adaption, we always get a Caucasian Perry White. We have an African American president, so why not an African American Perry White as well? Yet, Warner Bros. production still remains to keep their lips locked regarding this new cast.

Some comic book purists are perhaps disappointed with this decision. For me, having a different side of Perry White is exciting than ever. We live in 21th century where diversity is not a new thing for us. Laurence Fishburne is definitely a great choice to play the gig in Superman: Man of Steel. His voice should be pretty intimidating for the big boss of Superman.

Superman: Man of Steel will open June 14, 2013.

“The Dark Knight Rises”: First Picture of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman

So far we have got abundant shots from Batman: The Dark Knight Rises of both Christian Bale as Batman and Tom Hardy as the vicious character, Bane. I will give you some clues here since it is not possible for me to wrap all of those in a post.

Last past weeks, Warner Bros. has released some sets of pictures of Batman and Bane in costumes as well as the freaking cool fighting scene between both of them which probably took place on the Pennsylvania set. Personally, I really love their suits because they both truly resemble the meaning of comic flick.

Apart from that, this also raises a new question, where is Selina Kyle aka Catwoman? This is Christopher Nolan’s last Batman trilogy and we have not seen her in costume so far.

Finally, after a long wait, we get our first look on the hottie Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, riding a massive motorcycle that is supposed to be the Bat-pod. She was wearing a skintight leather suit and high-tech crazy sonar-vision as goggles while she was riding the Batpod. So far, I am kind of disappointed on her appearance and costume on these photos. She did not resemble CAT-woman at all. Where is the cat-eared cowl? And, that black glass is so Robocop – not catwoman. I will discuss some points after the jump.

On the comic book series, we see Catwoman to have short, dark hair, underneath the goggles and cat-eared mask. In the Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, if the character is portrayed by Anne Hathaway, she will have a long brunette hair. This is not really a big deal for me as long as they put the eye-wear costumes. As for the thievery side of Catwoman, Christopher Nolan has set the right portion. She must have stolen that Batpod from Bruce Wayne’s cave or something. All of these are still assumptions though.

Stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Marion Cotillard, and Michael Caine, Christopher Nolan’s last Batman trilogy “The Dark Knight Rises” opens on July 20, 2012.

Auditioning - How to Do Great at a Cold Reading

We have been giving away some tips about auditioning in last few weeks. But, we noticed that most of them are aimed to aid you auditioning on a theater production. Being an actor is a lot like being a temp worker. While auditioning for a role, you will be competing with a lot of prominent actors – it could be at least a six other actors or even as many as 6,000 actors. Preparing an audition for a theater production is basically easier than for a film, television, or commercial ones.

In a theater production, you should have been handed a script outline, containing the specific role and dialogs, weeks before the real audition. Thus, you will get sufficient time to memorize your lines perfectly. However, in a film, television, or commercial audition, you are expected to cold reading a script that you have never seen before. This method is called “cold reading”. Despite of the predictable awkward moment, the director seems more interested in what sort of personality we perform as the character. These are few things you can do to pass the nerve-racking audition through a cold reading.

Pick the Line and Memorize As Much As You Can

The first thing you should do is pick up the script, gain the basic understanding, and commit to memory as much dialogs as you can. At first you probably can only memorize a few words but over the times, you will get used to remember few lines in a glance. Keep your face out of your script while you are saying your lines – this is acting not reading.

Pay Attention While Other Actors Performing Their Lines

While other actor doing his lines, it surely creates some spaces for you to peek at your script and read your part. This is a fatal mistake at auditioning. Acting requires action and communication. Listen to your fellow while he is performing his lines. After he finished, you can read your next lines within few seconds and respond him by looking straight on his eyes. In addition, if you find it hard for you to remember your lines instantly, you are able to utterly repeat the process until you remember the entire lines. Keep remember to stay in your character by not looking at the script.

Draw Less Attention

This is a simple trick but it works well when doing a cold reading. Hold the script using your left hand, at your chest level. This will ease you while memorizing your lines since you do not have to bury your face deeply in the script. Apart from that, this gesture will look like your body’s natural extension. The less you draw the attention of the casting director, the wider chance you open to get the role.

Green Lantern 2 Will Be “Edgier and Darker with More Emphasis on Action” with A New Director

What did you think of the first Green Lantern film premiered few months ago? Regardless of what your opinions are, Green Lantern was in fact a huge disappointment for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment – The total sales could not cover the big-budget spent on this biggest tent-pole franchise superhero movie. Warner Bros. was reported to spend approximately $200 million dollars making the flick but so far it is only banking around $114 millions both domestically and internationally. This bitter fact definitely drops a Krypton-sized bomb for the crews.

Despite of the commercial and box office performance failure, Warner Bros. has been intent on moving to a future sequel called Green Lantern 2. Last we heard that the upcoming Lantern film will not be directed by the previous director, Martin Campbell, and it will remain so. We perhaps have spotted on the weak script, storyline and character development on the last Green Lantern. It might be the reason why they changed the director. Odd who knows! Above all, the executives believed that the core problem was in execution, not concept.

Via The Los Angeles Times, Warner Bros. film group President Jeff Robinoy indicated a brand new strategy, “To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action and we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth.” As far as it sounds, the strategy looks okay for me. I am more interested how they will implement this new approach on the upcoming sequel. What do you say?

In addition to the new “edgier and darker” story, Warner Bros. has hired writer Greg Berlanti, Michael Green, and Marc Guggenheim to pen some significant changes on the current Lantern’s script outline. Green Lantern 2 is supposed to zoom on the theaters late 2013 or some time in 2014, just after the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 Surpasses $1 Billion in About Two Weeks

Have you guys watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2? What do you think of this movie? Any feed-back? Well, I personally think that this last part of Warner Bros. magical series finale episode is totally awesome. I went to theater last few days to watch this flick and I didn’t regret at all – It was worth every penny. I’m quite sure that it did not only occur on me, but some of you guys were also excited to know the end of Harry Potterseries.

Warner Bros. has been reported to gain around $1 billion mark only two weeks after released date of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Predictably, Deathly Hallows will surpass $1 billion by the end of this week. Until Thursday, it has grossed $296 million domestically and $630 million internationally, so the total amount is $926 million. This amount brings Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 into one of movies that gross north of $1 billion worldwide, on the same level with Warner Bros.’ The Dark Knight ($1 billion), Disney’s Alice in Wonderland ($1.02 billion) and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($1.03 billion).

Until now, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was the top of Harry Potter series, having grossed $974.8 million globally in February 2001. But, it seems like the predicate will be evicted by Deathly Hallows Part 2. Benefiting for being released in 3D, Deathly Hallows Part 2 obtains a remarkable achievement by passing milestone in about two weeks. It will also surpass the $659 million Deathly Hallows Part 1 earned last year internationally.

Some were quite lucky while some others were not. I am really sorry to some of you who always run out of theater tickets. Hearing on this exceptional news coupled with my own experience, I would highly recommend you to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Keep trying around, folks!

The Avengers: The Hulk Poster FINALLY Revealed!

As predicted, last week Comic-Con International brought huge hints for both upcoming adapted films as well as new comic book series, including the highly anticipated Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. Aside from the first film footage that was premiered at the end of Captain America, you may have noticed that Marvel Studios has been executing their viral marketing by revealing “almost” every character in the epic superhero flick just before Comic-Con kicks on.

The first batch featured the four posters of Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Captain America and the second ones went with Thor and Nick Fury. After a long last, Marvel has finally unveiled the official movie posters of the-supposedly-complete The Avengers teams but left The Incredible Hulk in a large black gap. One big question is that how The Hulk would carry on a classic movie monster vibe to The Avengers teams. Most of us probably stick with this question since Joss Whedon has undertaken to visualize a different Hulk on Avengers teams.

Last week, Marvel Studio has just eliminated the blacked out space to show us Whedon’s version of The Incredible Hulk that will assemble next summer. That means we FINALLY get the final concept of The Avengers poster and it looks kicking awesome.

Check it below! (click for larger image)

When you observe that poster, you will get aware that Iron Man’s armor sports a circular reactor instead of the triangular shape which is literally odd. On Iron Man 2, Tony Stark used this triangular element to save his life from his injured heart. So, why does that change? Above all, I adore the slimmer and better modern era Captain America new suit on The Avengers.

I am so pumped to see this film! I initially have a liking for its brilliant story then it goes to the characters and cast members. Right now, I am mad for the entire component of this Marvel flick. The Avengers will slate on the theaters on May 4th, 2012.
