A New Look For A New Future

Actors Pages is celebrating its 3rd year and now bringing you even more!

As you probably noticed, we have re-branded our site with a slick new look. We have also installed a new program to increase the site’s loading speed. In the next few weeks you will notice a tremendous change in the speed and overall flow of the site.

What’s next? Well good news, we have many more new features coming.

May 15th, a new community platform will finally be released.
What will you be able to do with the community platform? What can’t you do?!
You will have access to all members profiles, and be able to contact, connect, network and chat with new members everyday. Also you will have the ability to write your own daily blog, upload unlimited photos, videos, and spread news. This is an actor’s best promotion tool, and it’s brought to you totally free.

July 1st, a new online audition system will be launched.
See a casting call you wish to submit for? Take the next step and upload an audition video. Yes… a picture is worth a thousand words, but a video is worth a thousand pictures. Take your game to the next level with “Instant Auditions”.

Thank you for being a part of the world’s biggest entertainment community.

We appreciate your support.

An actor’s Nightmare

Dream, dream, dream… That’s what we actors do. What else can we do?

After all we’re competing in one of the most challenging professions out there. A profession that only a few have come close to make a living off, and even fewer reach stardom.

It’s amazing that a lot of people contacting me and asking for my advice on how to become famous. Guys it’s not a hard thing to do if all you want is to be famous. You can commit a major crime, make a complete jerk of yourself, release a sex tape (please don’t), and do many other crazy things if all you want is short fame.

However, if you wish to be famous making movies then don’t think for a second that someone has an answer for you. If anyone even attempts to answer this question, then he/she is a real nut case. This profession is 99.9% luck, and unfortunately, 00.1% talent. Call me crazy, but I can point to you some famous actors who are so bad in what they do and people still go and see their movies. Why? Simple, because they were lucky.

What luck is? Luck is when you are at the right place, at the right time, saying the right words, and so on. I even faced it myself twice in my life. Even though it was on a very small scale… I booked a recurring role on a major TV show when I had probably the worse audition of my life. It was so bad, I could barley even deliver a line. Not only that, I didn’t even have time to shave (50 days of a red beard), and I looked nothing like the picture I had with me. I even dropped my sides. And… yep I got it.

That was lucky right? Now here is where your luck changes. You worked so hard to get a role, any role, and they cut your part completely. This is also luck, bad one.

Why am I telling you all this? It’s because you guys need to wake up. First of all know that you can be the most talented actor alive, and still never make it or even come close. Know it, embrace it, and from there you will be able to start your process.

The goal, your goal, should stop being “I want to be a famous actor”. Revaluate… The goal needs to be “I want to enjoy the process of working my way up to become a working actor”. If you truly can wake up and find the love for the process, even if this will take years, decades, or never happen for you, you are willing to enjoy the journey. After all, for most of us, the journey is the only thing we will ever accomplish.

If you have gotten to this point and truly surrendered to this new reality, then you are one step closer to be successful.

Dream, dream, dream… That’s what we actors do. What else can we do? Enjoy it.

Why am I not getting any auditions?!

Did you ever ask yourself this question?

I bet you have. At least once in your career.

Actors Pages support team is getting emails of this sort on a weekly basis. “Your site sucks”, “Your casting calls are fake”, “There is a technical issue with the site” and the list is long…

Rest assure that our site is working well, and so do many other casting sites. The issue is not on a technical level, but with the profession itself.

This article is not for the working actor, it is for the non working actor. Yes it’s very frustrating to have such a strong desire to perform and get no real chance. It’s very painful to feel like you’re the most talented actor out there, yet to receive no auditions or not enough auditions.

If you feel like that, then you are not alone. You are in the company of millions of frustrated artists. You have every right to feel frustrated, but you need to wake up!

If you want to be an actor, the first thing you need to understand that you have chosen one of the most competitive professions in the world. For every role there are hundreds if not thousands of actors that are trying to submit their pictures.

There is usually one casting director that looks at the submissions. And in most cases he will look at the first 20-30 and call about 5-10.

In bigger productions he may call 50-100 actors per role, but this is not a usual thing.

What can you do to help your chances?

1) Well, first of all don’t get discourage. It may take a week, a month, or a year for you to get in to the casting office and show your skills.

2) Even before that, you need to make sure your profile looks professional.Your pictures need to look professional, your resume needs to look professional, your entire profile needs to look clean and professional.

We get so many actors asking why they don’t get any auditions, but they have an awful picture and invested 2 minutes to build their resume. This won’t work and it’s obvious why they don’t get called in to a casting call.

3) Register to as many casting sites (legit ones) that you can. Yes, it cost money, but so does any other thing in life. You need to be ready to invest something in your career.

Think about it this way, you have spent 3 years of subscription and it cost you 3 x $12= $36 (Actors Pages is the cheapest deal on the web, other sites might be more expensive). Now you got a role at the end of the 3rd year that paid you, let’s say $100. So basically for an investment of $36 you almost tripled your cost.

of course we are not doing this to receive $100 after 3 years, but this is just a small sample to show you how to go about your career. You will have to invest wisely in order to succeed.

I hope this short article helped you a bit and took a way a bit of your frustration. Keep believing, keep frighting and keep dreaming,

Robin Hood :)
